Study on Multiple Description Coding for ROI Medical Image Based on EBCOT

In this paper, JPEG2000 ROI coding standard has been investigated. ROI coding, which combines MDC and EBCOT, has been done in medical images. Utilizing the abilities of spatial resolution graduation and random access to ROI of EBCOT, the algorithm has improved the anti-missing performance via network and formed robust code flow. Moreover, it can be used for arbitrary shape of images compatible with the international JPEG2000 standard. The experimental results demonstrated that the coding method improved the system compression ratio without influence on the medical diagnosis.
