Development of Smith Chart Teaching Software

Smith Impedance Chart is the basic skill that RF microwave engineers must master,and is the most important content in the teaching of RF microwave course.Considering the needs for the teaching of RF microwave course,a teaching software for Smith Impedance Chart is proposed and developed.First the mathematical model used in developing the software was analyzed,and the main functions of the software were introduced.Then the system framework for the software design was given,and the principle and implementation technique were discussed regarding software interface,impedance display and locus drawing.Finally,an example for 50Ω matching to 100+j80Ω was illustrated,which described the whole process of Smith Chart teaching by using the software.The software is not only suitable for teaching but also for self-study.It has been successfully used in microwave technology teaching,and a good teaching result has been obtained.
