HETEROGENEOUS MULTIDATABASES INTERCONNECTION BASED ON ODBC

Shao Jia · 2000

This paper researches the interconnection among heterogeneous multidatabases using ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) which is a standard application programming interface and is presented by most advanced data management systems. The interconnection in this paper uses ODBC as a middle interface, so applications can manipulate data in many data sources using a united form via ODBC. First, heterogeneous multidatabases interconnection technology at present is analyzed. Then the idea of realizing heterogeneous multidatabases interconnection based on ODBC is described. The ODBC technology is studied in the following part. After the basic framework of interconnection is given, several important key technologies: interconnection kernel, sharing data diction and heterogeneously distributed query, which must be solved in interconnection, are described in detail. As a result, this method not only surmounts the disadvantages of previous heterogeneous multidatabases interconnection, but also can be regarded as a scheme which is executable in theory and in practice to standardize and pragmatize the interconnection of heterogeneous multidatabases.
