Extracting the novel signal parameters is an effective method to solve the sorting problem of complex radar emitter signals.Based on the specific effect of ambiguity function(AF) in characterizing the inherent structure of a signal,an effective approach was proposed to extract the features of main ridge slice of AF.And a characteristics vector which comprised the direction of the main ridge, the centroid of the slice and the inertia radius relative to the centroid, was constructed. The results of theoretical analysis and simulation experiments show that the extracted characteristics vector, clearly expresses the differences of waveform in different signals, and it has strong compactness within clusters and large separation between clusters, and it is also good to resist noise. Our results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed feature extraction method.
