Quercetin, which is a member of the flavonols family, ubiquitously presents in foods including vegetables, fruit, tea and wine.It is one of the most prominent dietary antioxidants and it possesses several biological properties, such as antithrombotic,anti-inflammatory,anti-viral and anti-tumor activities. However, clinical application of quercetin is severely limited by its low water solubility and low bio-availability.In recent years, several ester derivatives of quercetin have been synthesized at home and abroad. Some have good water-solubility as well as notable bio-activities.For example,QC12 has entered in phase-I clinical trials as an anticancer drug and the quercetin-3,5,7,3′-tetraacetyl can inhibit the iNOS expression,it can be considered as a potential drug for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. The ester derivatives of quercetin synthesized in recent years are reviewed.
