Enlightenment of chimney of Balco Power Plant collapse for high chimney structural design

Through investigating the scene of No.2 271mreinforced concrete chimney wall of Balco Power Plant collapse,this paper analyses several kinds of possibility of chimney wall collapse from several aspects,such as foundation,structural details of weak parts of chimney,structure safety design,lightning trouble and instantaneous wind gust effect.This paper compares the structural design specification and detailed requirements for Balco chimney with current design specification of China.Finally,several suggestions about chimney design are put forword,so as to provide a refernce to domestic high chimney design in the future.
