A method of reducing power consumption of WCDMA Rake

Jing Hou · Telecommunications for Electric Power System · 2002

The power consumption in the handset in Wide Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA)spread spectrum system has been one of the most important considerations in both system design and in implementation, lower required received power leads to higher system capacity. In this paper,we address the issues of designing low power VLSI implementation of the power hungry digital block in the WCDMA system, namely the RAKE receiver. We demonstrate the use of architectural transformation to reduce the power consumption of the RAKE receiver.Experimental results show significant reduction in power consumption.
