Adaptive Block Truncation Coding Algorithm Based on Image Local Characteristics

This paper presents an image adaptive BTC scheme by exploiting the local characteristics of original image blocks. The BTC algorithm needn't want additional information labeling the encoding model of the image blocks,and it recognizes the encoding model according to the odevity of reconstruction level,and the bit-rate of compressed images is dramatically reduced. Experimental results show that the proposed BTC scheme can achieve better image quality at a low bit rate as compared to the other BTC algorithms.
