Clinical pharmacokinetics of fluvastatin extended release formulation

Fluvastatin,the first fully synthetic statin,has been shown to slow the progression of atherosclerosis in patients with hypercholesterolemia,and to prevent subsequent coronary events in patients with established coronary heart disease.Extended release formulation of fluvastatin can improve the clinical efficacy and safety profile of fluvastatin through altering the drug absorption process while remaining the characteristics of the compound.In this article,we reviewed this new formulation in aspects of drug development,pharmacokinetics characteristics and pharmacogenetics,respectively.
