A Piecewise-Linear Compensated Reference Current Source

Ke Li, Bo Wang, Qiming Wei, Li Zehong · 2009

A high precision reference current source was designed. Current IPATA and -IVBE with different temperature coefficients were achieved. The principle of piecewise compensation was described. By using current’s subtraction operation, the circuit generated two different compensating currents INL in the full temperature range and made a piecewise compensation for current IPATA to achieve bandgap reference current with lower temperature coefficient. Simulation results with HSPICE showed that the reference current source had a temperature coefficient smaller than 10-5 / ℃ over the temperature range from -42 ℃ to 120 ℃.
