Image Pre-Processing Algorithm Used in History Document Recognition

Shade and smear are commonly found in history document for long time preservation.For effective recognition,pre-processing needs to be applied on the digital image obtained from scanner.In this paper,present a modified maximum homogeneity smoothing algorithm and select threshold based on edge feature of the image.The experiment result shows that this method can keep the image details well without decreasing the smoothing effect and can improve computing efficiency.
