The ASIC design of a Direct Digital Synthesizer based on ROM structure

Shilin Zhang · Journal of Circuits and Systems · 2011

An ASIC design of a Direct Digital Synthesizer(DDS) based on ROM structure is presented. In this design, the accumulator module combines the carry line and pipelined architecture together to improve the frequency and reduce the resource utilization. The compression algorithm in ROM module is based on the 1/4 symmetry of sine function and Hutchison algorithm, which makes the compression ratio as high as 49 times. What's more, the power consumption and die area have been greatly reduced. The back-end physical design and simulation have been finished in SMIC's 0.18μm CMOS process. The DDS includes the feature of low power consumption, small die area, high frequency resolution, which can be used as a high quality clock source in 4G mobile communication.
