Segmentation of the characters in the fields to be recognized is a key procedure in a form recognition system. The segmentation methods of the characters in a general form recognition system are discussed. These methods involve several different approaches according to the various styles of the regions to be recognized in commonly used forms. By using these methods, the rather correct and fast segmentation are achieved and so the recognition rate and speed of the whole system are ensured.
