Safety of vehicles has become one issue of global concerned problems. This paper is to solve the problem. The new algorithm converts the image of vidio camera into MPEG code stream. Then the moving vectors of MPEG code stream are analysed to form rules of obstacle detection.Experimental results show that the algorithm is successful to the detection of objects in front of moving vehicle and achieves more satisfactory results.
