Design of TDM communication system based on MGT

Chaoran Li · Electronic Design Engineering · 2011

To take full advantage of wide bandwidth of optical signal and improve utilization of channel resources,a TDM(Time-Divided Multiplexing) communication system in FPGA was designed to implement high speed transmission of multipath in the line rate of 2.5Gb/s.System functionality and performance were also tested and verified. To overcome the performance defect of common FPGA that its transfer rate is lower than 1Gb/s,Xilinx high-speed FPGA which embedded MGT(Multi-Gigabit Transceiver) that supported the highest data rate of 3.75Gb/s was used.Test shows that under short-distance wire transmission condition, the system successfully achieves TDM communication of no error-code,and line rate is up to 2.5Gb/s.
