Edge-based Color Image Retrieval by Using Multiple Histograms
Yongjian Yu · Journal of Chinese Computer Systems · 2010
An image edge is the boundary between an object and the background, and indicates the boundary between overlapping objects. Edges are important since they mark the locations of discontinuities in depth, surface orientation,or reflectance. In this paper,an edge-based color image retrieval by using multiple histograms is proposed. Firstly, the color edge is extracted by using canny detection operator. Secondly, color histogram, distance histogram and angle histogram about the extracted color edge image are computed as image features. Finally, the similarity between color images is computed by using a combined feature index based on three kinds of histograms. Experimental results show that the proposed image retrieval is more accurate and efficient in retrieving the user-interested images.
