The HP Time Vault Service: Innovating the Way Confidential Information is Disclosed, at the Right Time

This paper focuses on the problem of protecting confidential information from unauthorized disclosures, subject to time-based criteria: it is a common issue in the industry, government and day-to-day life. We introduce an innovative service, the Time Vault Service, that leverages the emerging Identity-based Encryption (IBE) cryptography schema to enforce time-based confidentiality of digital documents and simplify their distribution. We discuss the advantages of this approach against a similar approach based on traditional cryptography. A working prototype of the Time Vault Service is described, as proof of the concept
