Analysis of Chinese topic construction based on generative grammar leads to conflicts between movement theory and base-generation theory,A-movement and A-bar movement,and topic feature and focus feature of preposed object in object-preposing construction.Analysis based on Optimality theory points out that Chinese topic construction is the result of constraint hierarchy of PROM》SUBJ》NEW.Pre-posed object in object-preposing construction can be selected through one more locality constraint ShM.
