Overview of Resilient Packet Ring Technology

Resilient Packet Ring technology(RPR) is an emerging metropolitan area network(MAN) technology.The network system structure and technical characteristics of RPR are discussed.Proceeding from its technical characteristics,The automatic topology identify,space multiplexing technology and QOS service functions in the structure of RPR are analyzed and researched.RPR technology enables operators to provide telecommunication services with low cost in MAN,and provides SDH-level network survivability while reduces delivery costs.RPR technology integrates with the economics of Ethernet,IP intelligence,and abundance bandwidth and reliability of optical fiber ring network.It has the functions such as SDH TDM,IP routing switch.At present,RPR is the best networking scheme for broadband IP MAN operators.
