Structural Case,Inherent Case,and Categorial Features of Case Assigners

Chomsky [8]proposes that V and INFL containing AGR assign structural case,whereas A,N,and P assign inherent case. Many other researchers,however,hold different views on the case categories assigned by V,N,and P. By analyzing different arguments,we find there exists a well-matched relationship between categorial features of case assigners and case categories. We assert that all functional heads are structural case assigners and all lexical heads are inherent case assigners.
