A Hybrid Gender Identification Algorithm for Speech Recognition

Proposes an hybrid algorithm for gender identification based on Hidden Markov Model (HMM) and pitch detection. The performances of the algorithm is evaluated on TIMIT, HTIMIT and CASIA corpora. Both algorithm performances well and the accuracy of ASR tested on TIMIT and CASIA corpora is improved after adding the gender identification into the ASR system.
