A Study of the Inertia Coercion~+ of Zeugma

Zeugma has always been regarded as a kind of rhetorical device.Therefore,it hasn’t been studied from the perspective of cognitive linguistics,let along from the aspect of construction grammar.Thus,this paper,by regarding zeugma as a kind of construction(zeugmatic construction) on the basis of corpus analysis,adopts a new model of inertia coercion+ to give a full account of zeugma in the perspective of syntax,semantics and pragmatics.As a result,zeugmatic construction has the feature of inertia coercion,prominence and conciseness.
