Enhancement of Microcalcifications Using Wavelets

To study a method for enhancing microcalcifications in mammograms which are difficult to be detected by the radiologist. Normalized difference image was used to weight wavelet coefficient, then the enhanced image was obtained by partial wavelet reconstruction. The results were compared with those of conventional partial wavelet reconstruction and morphological operation approaches. The results demonstrate that the weighted wavelet coefficient partial reconstruction method is an effective way to enhance microcalcifications.
