A novel method of identifying digitally modulated signals based on short-time analysis

This paper studies a novel approach to distinguish digitally modulated signals. The approach is to use short-time analysis to extract the characteristics of time-varying amplitude, frequency and phase in a digital modulation signal, and applies them for simple identification. The relevant optimum threshold is given under the condition that the input noise is additive white Gaussian. The performance of the identification scheme is investigated through simulations. Simulation results show that the approach is robust against noise. When SNR is up to 0dB, a rate of correct identification greater than 90 percent is obtained.
