An overview of main-memory database technologies

Yang Wu-jun · Journal of Xi'an University of Post and Telecommunications · 2005

In recent years, critical applications in telecommunications and financial fields have become more and more data-intensive. Databases play a key role in these environments. But conventional RDBMS can't satisfy these performance needs. Main memory databases offer a powerful solution to real-time data management needs for a variety of applications. The paper overviews the key design issues in developing main memory databases. In particular, we address the problems and solutions on structure of relation and index, concurrency control and recovery mechanisms in the context of main memory databases.
