Estimation of the Instantaneous Frequency in High Noise Circumstance

Zhenbo Zhu · Electronic Warfare Technology · 2004

The first moment of Cohen-frequency distribution has been commonly used to estimate the instantaneous frequency, however, it has a high variance for noise signals with low SNR. An improved algorithm used to estimate the instantaneous frequency based on cross Wigner-Ville distribution is given, which is based on the conclusion that the noise of LFM can be compressed by it's self-correlation or cross-correlation calculation. This method is efficient at reducing noise, and the effects of cross-terms are eliminated. The simulation results prove its effectivity.
