Feasibility Study of Mixture PRB Technology in Situ Remediation of Groundwater Polluted by Landfill Leachate

Xiaoping Xiang · South-to-north Water Transfers and Water Science & Technology · 2010

Five reaction media zero-valent iron (ZVI), activated carbon, zeolites, ceramsite, slag were used to design five kinds of permeable reactive barrier (PRB), viz. reactors A,B,C, D and E for studying the feasibility and the efficiency of the PRB technology in the remediation of leachate-polluted groundwater. The results indicated that the COD removal ratios of the reactor A,B C, D and E were from 82.36~87.29% respectively. The removal ratio of the ammonium ranged from 12.91~29.59%, which showed that PRB technology was an efficient method for the treatment of leachate-contaminated groundwater, and yet is expected to do further research.
