Dynamic Backlight Signal Extraction Algorithm Based on Threshold of Image CDF for LCD-TV and its Hardware Implementation

An algorithm based on the threshold of image Cumulative Distribution Function(CDF) for dynamic backlight LCD-TVs was proposed in this paper.The backlight luminance can be dimmed to reduce the backlight power consumption and enhance the contrast.The distortion of the display image could be controlled through this method so that the image quality can be improved effectively.A circuit for this method was designed to proved that the method was feasible.
