Study of Motion Estimation Algorithm in Video Encoding

Video is a special medium of multimedia which contains a mass of data and plenty of information.However, difficulties exist in the expression,organization,store and transfer of the video data.Interframe predictive coding can be used to eliminate the large amount of temporal and spatial redundancy that exists in video sequences and helps in compressing them.Motion estimation which becomes the maximum time consumption can consume 80%of the total encoding time of the codec.The paper gives the basic principles analysis of the video compression and the characteristics description of motion estimation,and puts the emphasis on the motion estimation algorithms study of video encoding,and the comparisons of several motion estimation algorithms.
