A critical problem in domain decomposition is to select an ideal number of sub domains when applying domain decomposition to the parallel computation of massively parallel processing (MPP) system so this paper analyzes the influence of the number of sub domains on the convergence speed and the parallel granularity. A method is presented for selecting the ideal number of sub domains based on domain decomposition method (DDM). This method is suitable for parallel computing on distributed systems with an interconnection network using DDM.The results show that the ideal number of sub domains selected by this method can improve the computation time.
