Techniques of Movement Compensation in MPEG

The predictable encoding techniques of movement compensation adopted in MPEG standard is discussed, which include causality prediction and non-causality prediction. MPEG standard applies the algorithm to reach very high compression ratio, while the image quality remains very good. It is extensively adopted not only in broadcasting and TV fields but also in many new areas, such as multi-media.
