Research and Implementation on Distributed Control Protocols inHigh-performance Routers

This paper discusses the scaling limitations of centralized control protocols and presents a novel method to distribute the functionality of control plane protocols within a router.The proposed method relives the scalability and performance bottlenecks by selectively off-loading certain link-layer and interface operations to linecards.This paper also describes an implementation of this method on a 128Gbps switched router.The method can meet the requirement of high performance router and has a good application future.
