A fast motion estimation algorithm with adaptive threshold

The fundamental rules of video motion field are discussed.A novel adaptive threshold fast motion estimation(AT-FME)is proposed based on the correlation of both movement and prediction error,which can update threshold and search pattern adaptively along with the contents and activity of each macroblock.Experimental results show that the AT-FME uses only 62% computation of UMHexagonS while keeping the same quality and bitrate.The algorithm provides a new effective way to reduce the complexity of video compression.
