Hybrid Algorithm for Load-balance Placement of Gateways in Wireless Mesh Network

A greedy algorithm was proposed for load balancing placement of gateways in wireless mesh network.Then, in order to get the two goals of minimum gateways and load balance in gateway placement, a genetic algorithm, integrated with the greedy algorithm, was delicately designed to form a hybrid algorithm.The hybrid algorithm could achieve load balance placement of gateways taking the advantage of the genetic algorithm in multiple-goal search and the greedy algorithm in executing efficiency.Simulation results show that the number of gateways generated by the hybrid algorithm is nearly equal to the result from other gateway placement algorithms, and as far as the load balance of gateways is concerned, the hybrid algorithm performs much better than the others.Specially, compared with Recursive_DS algorithm, the hybrid algorithm improves the load balance of gateways with the standard deviation of the gateways' load decreased by 45%.
