H.264/AVC standard introduced Rate Distortion Optimization(RDO) technique to select best premode for intra prediction. But RDO tech significant increases calculating complexity of encoding video sequence. This paper presented a fast algorithm for intra 4×4 block prediction, using the relation between SATD(Sum of Absolute Hadamard-Transformed Difference) algorithm and RDO tech.Experimental result showed that the algorithm has reduced time consumption in encoding H.264 sequence greatly without losing video quality obviously.
