Performance Analysis and Optimization of Contention-based MAC Protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks
Hailin Zhang · Computer and Information Technology · 2008
The limited battery power makes the power consumption a major concern in Wireless Sensor Networks.Common MAC protocol tries to save energy at the cost of throughput, delay, fairness and etc.In this paper a novel MAC protocol in WSNs—BS-MAC is proposed.By introducing a novel concept of bidirectional transmission,BS-MAC improves the performance of contention-based protocols in WSNs,such as S-MAC.The simulation results show that the BS-MAC can increase system throughput, and decrease delay, while maintains a rational energy consumption, completely outperforming S-MAC.
