Mobile terminal aided data collection protocol for wireless sensor networks
Haitao Liu · Computer Engineering and Applications Journal · 2008
A data collection protocol for wireless sensor networks which utilizes mobile terminals(mobile phones, laptops,PDAs etc.) is proposed. The protocol works in network scenarios where static sinks and mobile terminals coexist. All the sensor nodes maintain routing information of the static sinks.Mobile terminals broadcast location update to a subset of adjacent sensor nodes.Sensor nodes send or forward data packets to the nearest sink or mobile terminal in hop counts. The success rate of data transmission is guaranteed by acknowledge and retransmit mechanism.Simulation shows that by using this protocol great network lifetime improvement achieves with the increase of the number of the mobile terminals.Meanwhile, the capacity of the entire network improves while the data transmission delay remains low.
