Objective To acquire more and exact informations, red blood cell and reticulocyte indices were determined. Methods Using the new BECKMAN COULTER GEN'S Ⅱ hematology analyzer we had mensurated red blood cell and reticulocyte indices in 34 healthy subjects,20 patients with microcytosis due to iron dificiency and 19 patients with megaloblastic anemia respectively. And Mean reticulocyte volume/mean corpuscular volume(MRV/MCV) ratioes of them were compared. Results In healthy subjects, the ratio of MRV/MCV was 1.22.The volume of the red blood cells in megaloblastic anemia augmented and the volume of the reticulocyte distinctly were increased.MRV/MCV ratio was 1.36,which was raised 11%,produced distinct difference. In patients with microcytosis due to iron dificiency, the volume of the red blood cells dwindled in size distinctly, but the volume of the reticulocyte is kept normal. So the ratio of MRV/MCV much more distinctly raised 31% which was 1.60.Conclusion The ratio of MRV/MCV was a simplest index that quantifies the size difference between reticulocytes and mature erythrocytes. The change of marrow hemogenesis function was shown firstly on the reticulocyte, and the change of its' volume was shown distinctly.A change of MRV occurs much rarlier than the MCV change. The ratio of MRV/MCV seems to be a much more sensitive indicator and a powerful tool to diagnose illness and observe curative effect.
