Design and Development of A Query System for Integrated Heterogeneous Data Sources

This paper presents a design and development of a query system for distributed heterogeneous data sources. The query system can formulate an effective query over relational databases, text files, and XML documents. Through the schema manager, the query system creates an integrated schema after reading the data dictionaries of the various data sources. Query manager can break down a query, which is generated over the integrated schema by users, based on the connection and configuration information of system and dispatch them to the individual data sources. The results form different data sources will be returned and merged, then present them to users in a view. The system can perform queries over heterogeneous data sources effectively.
