The present thesis aims to study the development characteristics of reasoning skill of different dimensions and the eye-movement mechanism and scanning strategies in figure reasoning by examining the figure reasoning of student athletes of different ages with standard Raven's Progressive Matrices. The subjects are selected from sports clubs of a primary school(n=31),a middle school(n=26)and a sports university(n=15)in Beijing, with the average age being 14.6years old.The Raven's Progressive Matrices is tested on a computer with SMI I View X HED eye tracking system employed to record eye-movements data as well as ANOVA.The results indicate that the figure reasoning ability of the student athletes exhibits a progressive feature. The ability of perceptional identification, figure comparison and combination and cognition of simple systematic changing are well developed before 11years old.Along with the development of age,the abstract reasoning ability in serial relations cognition, comparison and exchanging figures.Compared the low score group, the high score group adolescents exhibit more saccades and clearer scanning strategies. The figure reasoning processes are not affected by the figure memory, but the image structuring is found significantly related to figure reasoning.Short time strategy guidance and image structuring are effective in improving the figure reasoning the student athletes.
