Simulation Analysis of IEEE 802.11e EDCA in Ad Hoc Multi-hop Networks

IEEE 802.11e specification provides quality of service (QoS) guarantee by differentiating the classes of service in the medium access control (MAC) layer using enhanced distributed coordination function (EDCA). This paper introduced the improvement of 802.11e EDCA against 802.11 DCF,and compared them by extensive simulations in the Ad Hoc network with NS2 simulator. The impact of the parameters in EDCA was been studied by simulating the transmission of multimedia. The simulation results showed that EDCA is effective to differentiate services and improve throughput,and different EDCA parameters will make serious influence. Improved performance can be got by setting better parameters to suit different situations.
