Joint source-channel coding using residual redundancy over noisy channels
Jun Sun · Journal of Communications · 2006
The effect of the residual redundancy on the source and channel coding was investigated, and a joint source/channel coding scheme was proposed based on variable length codes (VLC). This scheme utilized the residual re-dundancy at the output of the source coder to provide error protection for image transmission over noisy channel. Com-paring with system proposed by Sayood K, this technique was more universal because of utilizing improved convolu-tional decoding and non-Huffman. Experimental results show that joint coding system can achieve higher performance gain than conventional separate coding system.
