On Basic Research of Fluid Mechanics

In briefly reviewing the development of fluid mechanics in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the background of promoting the development of aeronautical and aerospace engineering in the 21st century, five research fields have been proposed for the basic research of fluid mechanics, namely: (1) turbulence; (2) computational fluid mechanics; (3) experimental techniques; (4) flow fields with separation, vortex and shock waves; (4) unsteady flows. Also, emphasis should be put on compressible flows.
