The development and status of AVS firstly were introduced bridfly. Then it gives a detailed analysis of the technical features and the flow of motion estimation algorithm in AVS are given and compared with the relevant parts of H.264.The improrement and optimization of sub-pixel motion estimation algorithm were made.Anew fast motion estimation algorithm was proposed, which is based on SAD of integer-pixel.The experiment results indicate that it can reduce the complexity of motion estimation but maintain the performance.
