Statins, Small GTP-Binding Proteins and Cardiac Hypertrophy
Shu Qin · Advances in Cardiovascular Diseases · 2007
Statins can exert beneficial cardiovascular effects besides serum cholesterol reduction. An increasing number of experimental and clinical studies suggests that many of the pleiotropic effects of statins may be attributable to the inhibition of small GTP-binding proteins. This article reviews the main mechanisms of preventing cardiac myocyte hypertrophy via small GTP-binding proteins pathways.
