Universal Model of Mapping from Relational Database to XML Schema

In order to overcome the shortcomings of automatic-schema-translation method in heterogeneous relational databases integration, the paper investigates the relational model, XML Schema model and the mappings generated by the automatic schema translation, and proposes RtoX, a universal model of mappings, up on the formal definitions of relational Schema and XML Schema.Formal definition of RtoX is given in detail, as well as the model-validating algorithm.A new method based on this universal model to integrate relational databases is described in detail along with a simple application.
