Vagueness in Reference of First Person Pronouns in Chinese and English Public Interviews

By qualitative and quantitative analysis of authentic corpora,the present paper explores the vagueness of first person pronouns in Chinese and English in their references,mainly the types of vague reference and the frequency distribution.It also discusses the pragmatic functions of the vagueness.The results show that there are similarities in the types and pragmatic functions of vague reference of first person pronouns between Chinese and English,but there exist certain differences in the frequency distribution of first person pronouns in vague reference between Chinese and English.
