Advances in Vessel Image Segmentation Technology

Vessel segmentation algorithms are the critical components of circulatory blood vessel analysis systems.It is also the base of vessel 3-d reconstruction. This paper presents the traditional vessel image segmentation technology and some novel algorithms based on specific theoretics and tools which appear in recent years. It includes region growing approaches, active contour models, tracking-based approaches, mathematical morphology approaches, neural network-based approaches, etc. The paper divides vessel segmentation algorithms into three main categories:①edge-based approaches;②region-based approaches;③specific theoretics and tools-based approaches.
