An adaptive ARQ protocol with packet length changing for slow Rayleigh fading channels

Shiliang Fang · Journal of China Institute of Communications · 2004

The property of slow Rayleigh fading channels results in the dropping of the performance-throughput of communication systems. In this paper, based on the combination ARQ protocol (SR+GBN ARQ) of the selective-repeat (SR ARQ) plus go-back-n (GBN ARQ), an adaptive ARQ protocol with packet length changing according to the slow Rayleigh fading condition estimated with the number of continuous postive acknowledgments (ACK) or negative acknowledgments (NACK) received by the transmitter is presented. Simulation results indicate that the proposed protocol can obtain higher throughput performance for slow Rayleigh fading and large round trip delay (T) channels.
