A Survey of the Research on Multimedia Data Encryption

It is a common means to encrypt multimedia data for network transmission security. This article discusses three encryption methods namely direct encryption, selective encryption and synthesized encryption with the combina-tion of encryption processes and compression-encoding processes, compares the advantages and disadvantages of these methods, points out respectively their adaptive circumstances. The article also discusses the principle, characteristics, common methodology and problems of chaotic-sequence-based multimedia data encryption technique. Finally, this ar-ticle discusses some existing problems to be solved in current multimedia data encryption and possible developing orien-tation of the technique.
